Prompt

The Memory Export Prompt

ChatGPT slowly learns a lot about you: your projects, your preferences, how you write. This prompt exports all of it in one clean, organized block, so you can move it into Claude, back it up, or just see what it has stored.

The 5 things it pulls out
1

Instructions

Rules you told it to follow.

2

Identity

Who you are.

3

Career

Your roles and skills.

4

Projects

What you are building.

5

Preferences

Your tastes and working style.

The prompt

Export all of my stored memories and any context you've learned about me from past conversations. Preserve my words verbatim where possible, especially for instructions and preferences.

Categories (output in this order):

1. Instructions: Rules I've explicitly asked you to follow going forward, like tone, format, style, "always do X", "never do Y". Only from stored memories, not from conversations.
2. Identity: Name, age, location, education, family, relationships, languages, and personal interests.
3. Career: Current and past roles, companies, and general skill areas.
4. Projects: Projects I meaningfully built or committed to. One entry per project, with what it does, current status, and key decisions.
5. Preferences: Opinions, tastes, and working-style preferences that apply broadly.

Format: a section header for each category. Within each, one entry per line, oldest first, as: [YYYY-MM-DD] - Entry content. Use [unknown] if no date is known.

Output: wrap the whole export in a single code block for easy copying. After it, say whether this is the complete set or if more remains.

How to use it

  1. 1

Open the AI you want to export from

Usually ChatGPT, where most of your memory has built up.

  2. 2

    Paste the prompt

It reads your stored memory, not just the current chat.

  3. 3

    Get a clean export

Five labelled sections, all in one copy block.

  4. 4

    Move it or save it

Paste it into Claude's memory import, or keep it somewhere safe as a backup.

Tips

  • Pair it with the Switch from ChatGPT to Claude guide for the full move.
  • Review the export and delete anything personal before importing it elsewhere.
