Make ChatGPT Write Like You

The fastest way to make ChatGPT sound less robotic is to stop asking for generic human writing. Feed it your own writing, have it build a style profile, then save that profile in Custom Instructions. After that, every draft starts closer to your actual voice.

How to make ChatGPT sound like you
  1. 1

    Paste your own writing samples

  2. 2

    Build a style profile

  3. 3

    Rewrite text in that style

  4. 4

    Ban the AI tells

  5. 5

    Save it in Custom Instructions

Default ChatGPT vs your style

Generic AI draft

  • Too polished
  • Same rhythm every sentence
  • Filler phrases and em dashes

Trained on your writing

  • Uses your normal words
  • Matches your pacing
  • Sounds like something you would say
The style profile

Tone

How casual, warm, direct, or formal you sound.

Rhythm

Your sentence length, pacing, and natural breaks.

Words

The language you use, plus words to avoid.

Rules

What ChatGPT should do every time it rewrites.

What to include in your samples

  • Real examples Use things you actually wrote, not writing you wish sounded like you.
  • Different formats Give it a caption, an email, a text post, and a short reply if you have them.
  • Your normal level Do not polish the samples first. The point is to capture how you already talk.

What the style profile should cover

  • Tone Casual, direct, warm, blunt, cheeky, formal, or somewhere in between.
  • Pacing Short punchy lines, longer explanations, quick transitions, or slower build-up.
  • Word choice The words you use often, and the ones that would sound fake coming from you.
  • AI tells The patterns to avoid, like robotic structure, filler, and overpolished phrasing.

How to use it

  1. 1

    Paste your writing samples

Open ChatGPT and paste in a few examples of your real writing. Use posts, emails, captions, or notes you actually wrote.

Analyze my writing style. Look at my tone, sentence length, pacing, word choice, structure, and how casual or formal I sound. Build a style profile based on how I actually write.

  2. 2

    Make the style profile useful

Ask ChatGPT to turn the analysis into a reusable instruction, not a long essay about your vibe.

Turn that into a clear writing style profile I can reuse. Keep it practical. Include what to do, what to avoid, and a few example rules that would help you rewrite text in my voice.

  3. 3

    Rewrite in your style

Stay in the same chat. Now ask it to use the profile on anything you paste in.

From now on, rewrite my text in this style. Make it sound natural, clear, and like something I would actually say. Keep the meaning, but remove anything that sounds stiff, generic, or overpolished.

  4. 4

    Ban the AI tells

Tell it exactly what makes writing sound AI generated, then make those patterns off limits.

List the patterns that make writing sound AI generated, like robotic tone, filler phrases, repetitive structure, overpolished wording, and em dashes. Avoid those patterns unless I specifically ask for them.

    Save it in Custom Instructions

Open Settings, choose Personalization, then Custom Instructions. Turn customization on, then paste the style profile there.

Compress my writing style profile into a Custom Instructions version. Keep it short enough to paste into ChatGPT settings. Make it clear, direct, and easy for you to follow in future chats.

Tips

  • Use at least three writing samples. One sample makes ChatGPT guess too much.
  • Do not add private details to Custom Instructions. They can apply across future chats.
  • If the rewrite feels too cleaned up, say: make it 20 percent messier and more like my actual voice.
  • Update the profile when your content style changes. Your voice is allowed to grow up a little. Annoying, but legal.
